Around 37 species of migratory birds have already arrived in the area, which presently has enough water in the pond because of floods in the Ganga last year, making the condition conducive for migratory birds. These birds, besides other local varieties, use the area as a mating ground and return to their native habitat in spring, along with their young ones, Like the previous years, this time too the area has come alive with the chirping of birds of different sizes and vibrant colours, department sources said, adding that cranes, spoon bill, pintail, coot, greylag goose and white stork among others have already been spotted in the area.
These visitors cover a distance of almost 8000 kms to come here and settle around the Beti Jheel, which is on the southern side of river Ganga. Despite getting the status of bird sanctuary, it has not yet been formally inaugurated. Forest officials say that the chief minister might inaugurate it in February.
